Hotel Recommendations in downtown Austin
Hi there,
I'm planning to visit Austin in late September. Any recommendations in terms of accommodation ($100-150/night) in downtown area, SoCo or 6th street, will be highly appreciated.
Cheers

For your budget I would recommend Austin Motel. It's in SoCo so great location.

The Hyatt Place Austin Downtown Hotel is 2 - 3 times your budget, so I don't know why it was even recommended to you.
I can't imagine you'll find anything within your budget in the downtown/SoCo area other than the Austin Motel. Their rates run from $95 - $207 per night.

Longhorn...I thought you were confusing Hyatt Place with Hyatt Regency, but thankfully before writing that I double checked room rates at Hyatt Place! $269 (random date of Sept 10) for a Hyatt Place is absolutely absurd!!! If they are charging that, what is the Hyatt Regency and their "new" hotel, the Driskill?! That is a lot of money for a Hyatt Place....a lot more than I'd pay!

What nights of the week are you staying? Are there any special events going on at that time? I am asking because last December (I know...not September) I got the downtown Omni Hotel on Priceline for $72 on a Sunday night--even I was surprised--definitely one of the best deals I have ever gotten on PL.
That said, a non-PL fairly good price was had about 18 months ago at the Best Western just off I-35 south of downtown--free parking, close-ish to South Congress, clean, comfy beds, nice towels--I would stay there again in a second.
