Hyatt Regency -downtown Wash,DC or L'Enfant Plaza Hotel?

We're taking our children and their teenage girls to Wash, DC the 3rd
weekend in July. My husband wants to stay at L'Enfant Plaza hotel because it's so centrally located to the Mall. Having read negative reviews about this hotel on Fodors.com, I prefer to stay at the Hyatt Regency. Both hotels have pools(a necessity for teenagers). We'll only have Fri, pm, Sat and Sun. We know what we want to see. It's the hotel that's at issue.
Your feedback appreciated.

I'd pick the Hyatt. The L'Enfant Plaza is more isolated, and without as many nearby dining options.

We liked the Hyatt, it was near Union Station and convenient to the hop on/hop off buses.

I've stayed at the L'Enfant Plaza and other than it being on top of the metro, it's NOT a desirable neighborhood from a tourist's standpoint --- in the middle of "nowhere".

Yep, the Hyatt. At the beginning and end of each day, you won't want to be near the Mall so much as dining options.

Be warned if you want a pool. It's NOT heated, it's NOT on a rooftop (no views) and it's NOT open during the "winter" (whenever they think it's cold out). Also it's not actually over a Metro stop but on top of a 2+ block tunnel that finally arrives at a Metro station. They're not even apologetic for lying about amenities.
