We like to come into Phoenix and stay at the Doubletree Paradise Valley in Scottsdale. We get a nice stop in Scottsdale, but just get on the interstate and go to the airport. If you are traveling out of peak hours, the traffic is moving at posted speeds.

If you are game for Priceline, this is a great situation for it. Do your homework and then bid for a 3-star in the airport area. We got the Radisson, which was just fine.
If you aren't familiar with Priceline bidding, see biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com. Also search on this forum for discussion of Priceline--lots of good info here.

We were in the same situation in June. We decided to stay at La Quinta Inn Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport South <http://tinyurl.com/5yxsqt>. They offer a free airport shuttle, free breakfast and free internet. It's not fancy but convenient and very affordable.

I stayed one night at the Doubletree Suites Gateway Center. It was a great place to stay and I would stay there again.
