I will be in DC in October for a convention at the Renaissance. The convention hotel is too expensive ($225 plus per night), so I thought the Harrington might work as it is walkable to the Renaissance.

the rates are great ($100 a night), lower even than many of the guesthouses I checked.

Will I be sorry?

I stayed here once. It is a dump but in a safe and decent area. You are paying for what you are getting. Have you considered priceline?

Yes. It is an older hotel, in a pretty good neighborhood. It is not fancy and I would have concerns about cleanliness.

But here's the "if." If saving money is important and you have reasonably low expectations, you will be fine. It is what it is. Lots of tourgroups, including student trips.

What are your expectations? (I'd also argue it is something of a hike to the Renaissance).

Thank you for the helpful replies. google maps says it is .6 miles to the Renaissance, which to me is close ( I like walking). But no great location will trump a dirty hotel room.

I may try Priceline after all. Thank you.

YOu get what you pay for. If you think there is some wonderful hotel in a prime location that is charging half or less of other hotels for no reason, that would be a foolish assumption

I'm sorry, but when you finally get a look at the Harringon you'll understand completely what everyone else has said.

There are closer hotels than the Harrington and have you considered getting one on the Metro and walking to the Renaissance from the nearest Metro stop (possibly Gallery Place) which would be closer than walking from the Harrington.

Umm..thanks Christina. But I think the fact that I posted a question about it prior to reserving suggests I wasn't assuming anything.

You've had good advice to priceline rather than stay at the Harrington. It is none too clean by reputation, and if you can get past that you'll find it's occupied entirely by teenagers. I am not a hotel snob, but I wouldn't stay there.
