Hotel for woman travelling alone
I will be in DC at the end of May for a few nights, mostly alone after getting my son settled. Is the Hotel George a good choice for me, in terms of location and safety? I don't want to be afraid to wander on my own. Any other suggestions that might be better? Thanks.

That's not a great location for walking around in at night. I'm sure it's a very nice hotel and that if you cabbed to and from your destinations it would be fine, but if you'd like to stay at a hotel in a neighborhood you could hang out in more, I'd probably opt for something around Dupont Circle. Unfortunately, since I live here I don't know that much about the hotels themselves -- only their locations!

hotel george is a really nice hotel but you would not want to go down some of the side streets near by, your only real choice from there is to head to capital hill and union station (places to eat there)
dupont circle area ok, try Hotel Madeira (spell like the wine i am a terrible speller) but you are not near any of the "attractions" in that part of town.
If you are staying near the hill tho, if not the hyatt, i go with the george or phoenix park hotel.
