Hotel for Wedding, Austin

I'm attedning wedding in October, ceremony at the Central Presbyterian Church, the reception is at the Doubele Tree Guest Suites on W. 15th Street. I'm flying into Austin and don't want to rent a car. The Doubletree Guest is kinda high. Is there another hotel within walking distance from that hotel, so I don't have to take a cab?? Would love any advise !!! Thanks, Sue

If I am not mistaken, Central Presbyterian Church is on 8th & Brazos in the downtown area. Why not stay downtown, and I bet you can catch a ride with another guest to the reception. I would recommend staying near or on East 6th street, then you can be near the capitol and the night life. There is also the Stephen F. Austin hotel on 8th & Congress, just one block from the church. Do not stay on West 6th, then you won't be very close to the church.

I don't know what your budget it, but if you do a search on orbitz or some other hotel site you will find many options for staying downtown. I hope the wedding is not on a weekend when a UT game is being played at home, that can make it more difficult to find hotel rooms. Good luck, and if you find anything of interest, post back and I will tell you what I can about that hotel.

Thanks for the help. The Stephen F Austin looks great but then again a little more expensive then I want to spend. What about the Omni Hotel or the La Quinta Hotel, would I be able to walk back at night after leaving the reception at the Double Tree?

Are you referring to La Quinta on E. 11th St.? That would probably be too far to walk at night. The Omni is definitely too far from the Double Tree. I've no idea how many people you know at this event, but once again, maybe someone will give you a lift. If not, taxis in Austin are not very expensive, especially for such short distances. If you want to check out taxi fares for yourself, call Yellow Cabs at 512-452-9999 and give them the addresses of where you're going from and to, and they s/b able to quote you a price by phone.

Thanks again for your help!!! Do you know if there is a shuttle that takes you down town from the airport?? I think I'll stay at the La Quinta Hotel. I'll probably be able to find someone to take me from the church to the Double Tree and use the taxi the rest of the time. I"ll only be there for two days so won't have much time for sight seeing. My long time friends son is getting married. They recently moved there so I'm sure I'll be coming back for a longer visit. They just love Austin!!

Yes Capital Metro runs buses from the airport to downtown, $1.00 each way. Check schedule for times. Re a hotel, the cheapest route is to bid Priceline, 4* downtown section. We have stayed at the Omni for $65, and $45. and The Hyatt on Town Lake for $50. twice. Use a cab for transportation as parking is about $10./day at hotels. You did not say what date you are coming in October. Priceline works great IF there is not a home football game going on at UT, or parents weekend, which is last weekend in Oct. this year. Have fun!

I would also recommend trying Priceline for this. I often get the Doubletree Suites using a 3* hotel selection in downtown. The Longhorns are home the weekends of 10/2 and 10/16 so hotels will be busiest on those days. Either way cabs are cheap and easy to get in downtown.

If you are going to take a cab, that opens the door for many decent hotels.
HOTWIRE.com may be a good option, too... especially if you dislike Priceline.

We stayed at the DT Guest suites and it is very nice. Since it is a suite, there is extra room unavailable in an ordinary motel room. Is there anybody else attending the wedding that could possibly share a suite with you? It is usually so much more fun to be where your friends will be.

Hope you enjoy your stay. You can request the hotel courtesy van if you need to leave the property.
