Glad you all liked it! And some of it is true (especially about the Sabres)!

Can you all stand another one? (Bear with me, I'm bored to tears with this broken leg...thanks Seetheworld...I'm hanging in there).

Diary of a Buffalo Resident
Dear Diary,

August 12 - Moved to our new home in Buffalo, New York. It is so beautiful here. It is so picturesque. Can hardly wait to see everything covered with snow. God's County. I love it here.

October 4 - Buffalo is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are turning all different colors. I love the shades of red and orange. Went for a ride through some beautiful hills and spotted some deer. They are so graceful, certainly they are the most peaceful animal on earth. This must be Paradise. I love it here.

November 11 - Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such an elegant creature. The very symbol of peace and tranquillity. Hope it will snow soon. I love it here.

December 2 - It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed in white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won), and when the snowplow came by we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Mother Nature in perfect harmony. I love Buffalo.

December 12 - More snow last night. I love it. The snow plow did his trick again (that rascal). A winter wonderland. I love it here.

December 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work this time! I'm exhausted from shoveling. Damn snowplow!

December 22 - More of that white crap fell again last night. I've got blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think the snow plow man hides around the corner and waits until I'm done shoveling this driveway. Jackass!

December 25 - White Christmas my busted ass! More friggin snow! If I ever get my hands on that son of a bitch who drives that snow plow, I swear I'll castrate the dumb bastard. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt this friggin ice.

December 28 - More white crap last night. Been inside since Christmas Day except for shoveling out the driveway every time "Snowplow Harry" comes by. Can't go anywhere, cars buried in a mountain of white crap. The weatherman says to expect another 10 inches of the crap tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10 inches is?

January 1 - Happy Friggin New Year. The weatherman was wrong (again). We got 34 inches of the white crap this time. At this rate it won't melt before the 4th of July. The snowplow got stuck up the road and the dumbass had the balls to come to the door and ask to borrow my shovel. After I told him I've broken 6 shovels already, shoveling all the crap he pushed into the driveway, I broke my last one over his friggin head.

January 4 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on the way back, a friggin deer ran in front of the car and I hit the bastard. Did about $3000 damage to the car. Those friggin beasts should all be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them all last November.

May 3 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rotting out from all the friggin salt they keep dumping all over the road? My car looks like a piece of crap.

May 10 - Moved to California. I can't imagine why anyone in their right friggin mind would ever want to live in God forsaken Buffalo!!!

JJ5--I am up in WI. Oshkosh to be exact. We got a few inches today. We live right off of Lake Winnebago and the lake makes it seem colder.

BuffaloGirl thanks for the laughs! Wisconsinites are the same. 30 degrees means shorts. BTW I relocated here from Houston. One time it was "got down" to 50 and we had notices in our mailboxes that our pipes could freeze that night. Too funny. Ironically, I grew up in CO, and I thought I knew cold. Now I know CO has the best winters around, nice and mild. (Even though Coloradoans hate it when you let out that secret.)

I live in Canada. Toronto area. We are expecting 2" tonight. It's no big deal here. Nothing will shut down. I remember being in DC and they had 3" and they closed the city including the airport. Couldn't believe it.

BuffaloGirl: HA HA HA!!

Seetheworld:
There is a company called Country Ways here in Minnesota that sells snowshoes and kits. I made a pair of Ojibwe style shoes about ten years ago and just love them. When my DH goes for his snowshoe weekend they have him blaze the trail because these shoes work so well in our terrain. I think you can access them by snowshoes.com. They also sell completed sets. We do add another layer of marine spar varnish every 2 years or so. They are aesthetically pleasing; the kind of snowshoes you want to hang over your fireplace. I have never tried the new high tech shoes...I'm sure another Fodorite has used both kinds and can give you a comparison...but I do like mine and it was satisfying to make them.

Did I laugh at this thread. Thanks, all.

BuffaloGirl, I can remember having 3 or 4 day Monopoly games while snowed in- and also getting all my groceries on a sled with two little kids. But we haven't had snow ANYTHING like it used to be in the '60's and late '70's.

I'll never forget the frozen legs (they were real light blue) over my go-go boots and minnie skirt during the 1967-68 Friday that I had to walk home from UIC near downtown Chicago to my then home (5miles at least). Never could listen to songs like "Winter Wonderland" the same way after that era.

Honestly and the truth; I have a youngest son who is still not wearing his coat. Just keeps it in the car, "In case, I need it." He also played hockey.

My log pile this winter in IL is huge, but the pieces are so large that I can only carry one in at a time. This year I have Sassafras, Apple, and Oak. It all came from trees either dead already or half decimated by the pole barn building built in MI. Transporting it all was such good exercise!

They are leaving the deadfall just lay where it falls in all the National parks/ County in almost all the states by us now. There is a LOT of wood on the ground everywhere.

Makes walking off the "path" anywhere a
"ginger" adventure. Be careful everyone if you are out on the snowshoes. I may buy some and try it too. Thanks for the input.

At 279 below zero Buffalo cows complain of farmers with cold hands? At what temperature do the Buffalo cows (or bulls) run away when the businessmen in Buffalo get horny? LOL
