Here comes the snow??!!
So,it's apparently going to snow a little out here in WA/OR. I spent half the day at work cracking up at the panic in everyone's voice! And watching the bread and milk fly off of the Costco shelves! The news channels are just as funny. Talking about 2 inches in one breath and road closures&emergency snow survival supplies in your car in the next! Guess driving on NJ my whole life has me prepared for anything. I'm pretty sure I'll be one of 3 people that don't call out tomorrow! Then again, I'd rather everyone who's afraid of driving in bad weather stay home anyway so they don't crash into me!

Ooooh I hope it snows! :D
Our first winter/Christmas in Portland, how fun if it snows! I remember the year we had , what was it, 17? snow storms in NY...in the late 90s..this will be nuthin :) Bring it on LOL |
I'd stay home if it snowed.
|
My only concern driving from Battle Ground to Hillsborough is that hill going up Rt26 at the Zoo!
My little daughter wants snow really badly! Her Uncle filled up his truck bed with snow two weeks ago when he went hunting on St Helen's and she was the only kid in town with a mound of snow on the front yard!Talk about jealous kids walking by! so ,for you and for her, Scarlett,I will allow the snow to come ;) |
I will do what I did in NY and bake cookies ..
Here in town in the Pearl District, we are having First Thursday so snow might add to the charm. I am afraid it will probably turn into rain and ruin things.. Stay safe! |
Our first winter/Christmas in Portland, how fun if it snows!
And how much fun when it's a silver thaw. =-O |
LOL, yes, quite a few people here freak when that four letter "S" word is spoken:D
I agree, I would rather people stay home if they are not comfortable driving in snow. As it turned out...no snow here:( Our kids were so disappointed. They were hoping to get a fun day and delay their finals. |
We have a couple of inches on the ground in the last hour. The timing was such that the traffic to work this morning was much delayed. But we hardly mention it here in Northern IL. We listen to traffic helicopter reports and proceed thusly. There isn't any hub-bub until it gets over about 7 inches, except on the weather portions of the early morning shows where they almost make every storm into the "big" one. But today was bad because of the timing; it started about 1-1/2 hours before rush hour started with a nice icy slick.
It's beautiful and really looks like Christmas today. My campus is breathtaking anyway- but with the decorated trees etc. and everything tipped in white- wish I could send you all some cheer. I'll make myself a cappaccino later and go drink it on the portico with the big flakes coming down. We have no emergency days until it gets over a foot or the temps go down to below zero for over 48 hrs. We slide all over here too, but just learn to drive in it. You do drive differently. Or you stay home and enjoy the day. It's only the Feb. gray ones that last days and are mostly slush that are the most resented. By then you want another change. |
OR, WA, and NJ? That's winter for beginners 101 ! Anyone experienced 50 below zero? A local Fargo TV station aired a press broadcast from NYC a few years ago where Mayor Mike Bloomberg was asking people to stay indoors for their own safety. It was 8 Above zero with No wind. We were all laughing about it in our 35 below zero blizzard.

I spent four very cold years in Fargo. One winter we had over nine feet of snow; that was the year with all of the flooding in the spring.
|
Ice fog. Fairbanks. January. 'Nuff said.
|
Please send some of it this way! I'm about to suffocate in this heat!
|
Excluding Fairbanks, Fargo and surrounding areas have colder temps than most any parts of Alaska which have towns or cities. Anchorage has warmer winter temps than Fargo.
|
I grew up in Saskatchewan Canada where we were still walking to school when it was 15 below. After that my dad would consider giving me a ride
Dont miss snow - only like it when I can drive to it, play for a few hours and leave it behind. Even when its been rainy for weeks I tell myself that at least I dont have to shovel it out of the driveway before I go to work. |
Anchorage has warmer winter temperatures than lots of places. Thanks be to the peaceful ocean.
However, winters in the north are longer than in the lower 48. Many's the day one can watch the Cubbies on TV in Anc while outside the snow is falling. |
Yeah, it's cooling down here in Austin, too. Supposed to only get up to about 70 today. Never fear, by Saturday we'll be back up into the 80s. Finally getting our fall colors. The trees out front are bright red.
Fall in Central Texas - gotta love it! |
OK, I'll chime in. On Cape Cod last winter we had 100 inches of snow. That's pretty darn close to that nine feet in Fargo! And Cape Cod Bay was frozen solid for a couple of miles. I guess we can't keep telling people you can play golf year round here!:)
|
It got down to 70 this morning on Oahu. Not quite cold enough for snow!
|
I just finished snowblowing our private alley and the widow next door's driveway. It is very cold here and we have 4-6" of fresh snow on the ground. It is breathtaking...literally and figuratively!! My DH says there were several people in the ditch on his morning commute. I actually do love Winter. Call me crazy.

Here in south central Alaska, my family is anxious for snow so we can get out and ski and snowboard. Unfortunatley, we've been locked in high pressure for a couple weeks and there's only hoarfrost on the trees and a skiff on the ground.
What I am tired of is my sister constantly griping that it's only in the 70's in Houston and they are freezing.(A sibling issue I am certain). Besides, my pale palor takes years off my real age, lol. |
