If you decide to spend part of the time in Tucson, check my online list of things to see and do around here:

If you haven't been to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, do put thos on the agenda. You will want to spend at least one night at the GC (inside the park) and at least 2-3 nights in Sedona.

The Arizona Inn really is special. But it is quite pricey at this time of the year:

At the GC, stay inside the park, at one of the rim lodges, if possible (El Tovar, Kachina, Thunderbird, or Bright Angel). Maswick and Yavapai are away from the rim (1/4 to 1/2 mile), but still inside the Park, so those would be my secodn choice. I am sure the website will show no vacancies, but check the website twice a day and call at least once a day. There are usually cancellations.

If you absolutely can't get anything in the park, Tusayan or the Cameron Trading Post would be next best.
In Sedona, what is your budget? There are hotels from around $100 to over $400 a night. For a clean, basic place with great views, I like Sky Ranch Lodge:

At Sky Ranch Lodge you can get a view room for under your budget. Sky Ranch is up on airport mesa, so you have to drive everywhere you go. Right in uptown Sedona there are some nice hotels. The Best Western Arroyo Roble is right there, but might be a little too much. I haven't stayed at any of the hotels in uptown, but maybe someone else can help. In West Sedona, the Best Western Inn gets good reviews.

What kind of activities do you like? Looks like you'll just miss spring training.
Old Town Scottsdale has lots of art galleries, restaurants and shops. It's a nice place to walk around. There is also the Little Schoolhouse, which is free and gives you a history of the city. They can also tell you about the historic walking tour of the area.
The Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens are just a short drive from the area. Oh, and the culinary festival will be going on April 5 - 10.

This is high season so prices will be higher than usual.
Look at Gainey Suites in Scottsdale ..I agree with Mike P, not a big fan of Phoenix area.
Sedona is filled with lodging choices so you should find one in your price range.KIng's ransom might be reasonable and may offer views.
