help be decide.....Norway or Quebec

I have the possibilty of one week of skiing (cross country) in either Quebec City area or going all the way to Oslo (from San Francisco) for that same week. Haven't priced airfare with Priceline yet, but San Francisco -Oslo is 673 with Expedia. I am worried about jet lag..with only one week of skiing..and crossing 8 time zones! What would you advise me to do? Quebec or Olso?

Though conditions did deteriorate in Quebec they are now very good and more snow is expected. Conditions in Oslo are very good with 50 cm snow depth in Oslomarka. I was going to bid $475 on the trip with Priceline, but obviously haven't yet done so. I just can't seem to decide. I wouldn't go to Oslo if the trip came to over $1200. Then, of course, there is the advantage of the Canadian dollar against the American.

A friend of mine did a 3-day trip to Norway a few weeks ago. One thing that she mentioned, that you may want to keep in mind, is that the days are very short this time of year. She said that the thing that affected her the most was the relatively few hours of daylight. This may impact how much time you have to spend outdoors skiing. Just something to consider.

Yes I had thought of that. I believe that in Oslo the sun rises at 9:15 and sets around 3:30. They do have extensive lighting of many of the trails though. Lights strung through the trees I believe. Another thing is that I really wonder if Priceline would accept a bid in the $475 range. (Roundtrip from SF).

Quebec will be cheaper I am sure.

Personally, I would go to Quebec. I have been there before (and I'm canadian so a bit partial), and you definitely save money because of the dollar, you won't have as much jetlag, and everything is pretty cheap in Quebec. The food is simply amazing, you can get host tables (4 course meals) for $25 canadian...the food is as good as a $100 meal in San Francisco (and I know since I live in San Jose).

Don't know alot about Norway, but people in Quebec will speak english, so no language barriers, and the scenery in Old Quebec (Chateau Frontenac on the St-Lawrence river), is worth the trip by itself.

I am puzzled why those are your only two choices but Norway is much further and more expensive. This is a no-brainer as Qubec is closer, cheaper and MUCH better food. Would you be skiing Mont St. Anne?

Sorry to be the spoiler here, but why post on the US board? Though this is a valid, resonable travel question, since neither Quebec nor Oslo are in the US, why not post on the Canada and/or Europe board? Plenty of US residents are on those boards if it's the US perspective that you're after.

Mark, you're a psych prof? Find your inner child and tell him to take some spelling lessons.

Hey Proffy - You can't spell, and you can't count either, huh? Think about it:

* The jet lag will take at least 1-2 days to recover.
* You've got a final day of travel at the end of your trip, that is, if you're not taking the red eye.
* That means you got at least 3 days of "nontrip" time where you're not on the slopes.
* That means 5 days of "trip" time. Is that good enough for you? Then go. If that's no long enough for you, don't go.

Jesus, Besus!
