Harlem Gospel Tour
We will be in NYC this weekend and are thinking of doing this tour. I have some misgivings about using a church service as entertainment, but think we would really enjoy this.
Anyone done this or know how Harlem residents feel about this?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Don't know anything about it.
Does it say which churches it visits? (Many don;t allow such tours.) Obviously the tour company has to have the church's OK and make a contribution - and those on the tour must realize it's a religious service and behave accordingly.

Imo, if the church allows a bus load of tourists in, they must think it's ok. But if it bothers you, there are plenty of other options open to you. You can go by yourself to a gospel service either in Harlem or in Brooklyn, or, BB King's in Times Square has a gospel brunch with the Harlem Gospel choir on Sundays.
Here's an old list from NY Magazine. Just double check the info before going to make sure it's still accurate.
