Thanks for the replies.

I surely wasn't expecting the Hyatt. I just wanted a clean, comfortable place to stay.

I am not comfortable giving the room number, however it was in building number two.

Fodors is a place to voice opinions and that's what I did. I just wanted to share my experience so that you all may make more informed decisions about future vacation plans. To say I was "expecting the Hyatt" was really not fair, nor is it the reason I wrote the post. Sheesh. I can't imagine why anyone is trying to discount the problems. It really WAS that bad.

My husband and I stayed at HB for the second week of our honeymoon and while I wouldn't say it was awful I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone. My travel agent recommended this place as a reasonably priced place to stay in Kauai. We stayed at Kona Village on the Big Island for our first week and I think part of the problem was that at Kona Village every single employee there was extremely nice and obviously happy working there. This was not the case at HBR. We did agree to a "low pressure" meeting with the time share people in exchange for a gift certificate for the restaurant. The meeting was definitely not low pressure when we said we weren't interested. We stayed in a regular hotel room with a garden view. We were on the 3rd floor (which I requested because of the vaulted ceiling) and it was a pain not having an elevator. The next time we go to Kauai I hope to stay at the Princeville Resort which was right next door and looked beautiful.

Ok folks, am I missing something here? Couldn't you have requested another room and /or negotiated (demanded) a refund (or stop payment) or SOMEHOW move so you didn't have to stay there??? Is Hawaii that different from every other accomodation in the world?

Haven't been, but plan to in '05 for our anniversary....again, are the 'rules' different on the islands?

Happy-

If you haven't already, you should go to the Hotels section of fodors and do a review on the hotel. Everytime I book a hotel I do a lot of research and that is one of the places where I look for comments. I also post my comments on almost all hotels I have stayed at on here as well. I think that most of the comments are pretty true. One place I was considering had some iffy reviews but I decided to book it anyways and sure enough, we also thought it wasn't worth what we got. Another site I might post comments or do reserch on is tripadvisor.com. It's always helpful when you are investing time and money into a vacation to hear other's comments wether they are good or bad!
