Hampton Inn Dulles South - Chantilly, VA

Does anyone have any feedback on the Hampton Inn Dulles Airport South in Chantilly VA? Is the area decent? Any nearby restaurants? Is the hotel okay? Thanks.

I have stayed there. Basic Hampton Inn, except that it has a really big indoor pool. It is very big for a hotel like this, we were surprised by it and ended up spending alot more time in the pool than we planned. It is just off of Rt 50, a major commuting corridor, but it is far enough off of 50 that you are away from the noise and traffic when you are in the hotel. 50 is pretty wide there I think but there will be heavy traffic during rush hour around 50. You have to drive down 50 a few miles to get to restaurants, mostly chain restaurants. Regarding the area being decent, this is not an area where you can just go out and walk around due to Rt. 50. It depends on why you are staying there, what are you doing w/your time. If you are staying there because you have business in the area or need a place by Dulles (although there are closer hotels, inclduing a closer HI I think), or are visiting someone in Leesburg area it is ok (or are you visitng the new Smithsonian museum out there?) If you are visiting D.C., it is a far distance from the city, and on a major commuting rd.

We stay here frequently when we have early morning flights out of Dulles. As the other poster notes, you have to go away from the hotel a bit to get to restaurants and shopping. Unless you have business/family in the area or are staying the night before a flight, I would not make this my first choice for lodging.

There is a Hampton Inn closer to the airport, but it has exterior corridors and is one step above a dump. Last (and only) time there they were remodeling the entire place. The Airport South property is only a few miles further, usually less expensive, and nicer.

Thank you both for your advice about the Hampton Inn. I am just spending one night prior to flying to Germany from Dulles. So it sounds like it might fit the bill. As I get older I find that making multiple connections on international flights is exhausting so I thought I would break it up with an overnight. I'm basically looking for a clean, comfortable place to spend the night. I was told they have a free shuttle to the airport. Does anyone remember if they have in-room hair dryers?

I think that info would be on the website for the hotel.

I stay in Hamptons regularly and have never encountered one without a hair dryer. Hotels that don't have them in the rooms have some at front desk to borrow. I haven't packed a hair dryer in years.
