Now is probably not the time to ask but we are renting an RV from Great Alaskan Holidays beginning July 31. Any coments?

Good company, but purchase their insurance waiver. Otherwise you are liable up to $1000 and they KNOW every inch of every RV. Had a whole list out when checking mine in and claimed I had had a windshield "nike" unofficially repaired, just a "dot" on the windshield. I disputed this and sure enough way down the list, they had missed this repair that was already noted. Take photos if needed, but the best recommendation is to purchase the waiver for 100% coverage.

We rented from them last August and were very happy with the motorhome and the customer service. It was very well stocked. (minor point-make sure the coffeepot they give you fits the coffemaker...an honest mistake by them,but we were mopping up coffee the first morning and from then on had to improvise!)We loved our RV trip in Alaska!!!!!

We were planning to purchase cdw in any case but thanks for the mention. Were you given sufficient linens/towels? Was it clean? There are only 2 of us travelling and we have reserved a 25 footer. Will be an adventure since we have never driven/rented on before. Wondering about gas mileage....???

We rented from them at the end of May and we had a 2006 Chalet. It was very clean. WE had asked for linens for two beds and we had four bath towels , wash towels and hand towels. If you plan on washing dishes you might want to bring a few dish towels. The kitchen is well stocked with pots , pans and dishes. They picked us up at our hotel right on time and had us checked out pretty quickly. They were a great company to rent from.

We used them also several years ago. Very clean RVs, well stocked. Stop at one of the supermarkets in Anchorage to stock up before you leave. Did you get a copy of the MilePost yet? If not, it's recommended.

We had never driven an RV before either. We rented the smallest for the two of us, but my husband said afterward he could have easlily driven one a little larger. Ditto the suggestion to take extra dishtowls, and stop on the way out of Anchorage at the grocery store. Can't remember about gas mileage, guess it wasn't too bad or I would remember. We drove to Seward, then Homer, stopping along the way. We were not driving every day, but camping 2-3 days at each stop.

At most expect 10mpg. What ended up being an excellent idea for us was to state the number of people for the max the RV holds, then you get linens for that number, could say 6 with your rental. Actually, more convenient is probably stopping in Wasilla rather than Anchorage if you aren't at ease in heavy traffic. last available full grocery and Walmart.

I don't recommend renting the smallest RV because they don't have a permanent full lower bed. You have to set up the table/sofa every night. I always do laundry.

We are spending our first RV night at an RV park in Anchorage. We have the time and thought that it would be wise to check out the RV carefully to make sure everything works before hitting the road. We will leave the following day toward Valdez.Don't have the name of the campground we are booked into with me. We will be celebrating our wedding anniversary that night - any suggestions for someplace with local atmosphere for a nice dinner?

I can't resist it any longer so I'll just say it. I have been to Alaska and I thought this thread was about a great Alaskan Holiday that I missed.

Anchorage /Valdez has little in the way of gourmet dining. How far are you going??? The best dining probably is the Cooper Center Roadhouse, Princess has good meals- but no local flavor.
