RV Rental in Alaska

Am now considering RV rental for a week--anyone have good experiences/good deals with any particular company--am looking for pickup and drop off in Anchorage

I was extremely pleased with my experience with ABC Motorhome Rentals. they are located just outside Achorage Airport. They were very helpful during the pre-arrival period and very effecient on the checkout. I brought it back after they were closed and just dropped it off.

I had a minor problem with my RV which they could not have forseen or prevented and they were exceptionally cooperative in resolving the situation. to my entire satisfaction.

No matter who you rent from, I recommend taking the extra windshiled damage coverage. I had not even gotten out of Anchorage before a truck threw up a stone and put a large ding in my windshield. At $10 a day, it was well worth it and, if I had not had it, it could have cost me $495 for the replacement plus possible loss of use charges. My own insurance would cover that with a rental car or truck but not with an RV.

I too recommend Great Alaskan. Budget for their added insurance, since their included has $1000 deductable and it is just about a given for some kind of damage. They go over it with a fine tooth comb upon return.

Another Great Alaskan Holiday frequent user. I took Budget Queen's advice and added the additonal insurance. 2nd day into our trip the windshield got hit by a rock. Since we had the additional insurance, no questioned asked and we recieved our full deposit after the trip. Pick up could take a couple of hours so just plan accordingly and have a great trip afterwards.

Looks like Great Alaskan is the way to go--they include so much into the given rates...some places were charging $5 for chairs, $5 for lines, $5 for kitchen stuff, $40 for cleaning fee and it was adding up!! Thanks for the advice!!

Based on the postings I made an attempt to book with Great Alaskan. Not successful
Pick up has to be 11 am - 6:15 pm (as available) and return has to be 7 am-11 am (as available) since my flight arrives @ 7:45 pm and then leave the area @ 11:45 at night, I was going to be loosing basically 1/2 day for pick u and 1/2 day for return. No exceptions.
I like the no hidden charges but 7 day minimum and .17/mile charge actually made it a little steep compared to others. Appreciate the suggestion of windshield coverage. We are going to Alaska during the "shoulder" season.

We rented an RV from Alexander's RV Rental in Anchorage. We felt that their rate was pretty good for our time and we liked the service we got. They have a website where you can check them out at http://www.alaskamotorhomerental.com/796044.html

We're looking at a Sept. trip and Great Alaskan has the best price by far unless I'm missing something. We'll have the same situation as all2elk, but once we turn in the travel home we plan to use that day for sightseeing in Anchorage, end the day with a late dinner, then off to the airport. Anybody see any reason this woldn't work. I suppose we'll have to take a cab to the airport. I imagine cabs are pricey in Anchorage...

We did a late August/early September trip, and rented from Great Alaskan also. Very good experience. Since we had to turn in the RV early in the morning and our flight did not leave until 9:30 that evening,we had GA shuttle us to the airport where we rented a car for the day.It was only about $40 for the day. Gave us a lot of freedom for sightseeing in Anchorage, and a place to keep our luggage.

hey mlw - that sounds like a great idea. I think that's what we'll do. Great tip.

If renting a car is of interest, go to the airport and pick up the car before you go to drop off the RV. Less moving of luggage at the airport.

I found this great site with loads of locations including Anchorage. www.usarvrentals.com. It looks like they have unlimited miles to pick from too. I was looking online for a good company that rents out of Las Vegas and I don't want to have a Robin Williams experience.
Help, any suggestions. Does anyone know about USARV Rentals?
