Not sure what you mean when you ask "Which spot should we see." There are only two places from which you can see Grand Canyon NP -- the South Rim and the North Rim -- and the latter will be closed at that time. That doesn't leave you with a lot of choices.
I recognize there is part of the Canyon, outside the National Park, called the "West Rim." You won't save any time or money by going there instead of the South Rim, and what you see will be FAR less spectacular.
My choice as the best place for two people to stay in would be the Bright Angel Lodge *IF* you don't mind sharing a bath. Despite a very low price, you'll wake up only thirty seconds from a Rim view. El Tovar is the best hotel but (1) it's priced accordingly and (2) it's often booked months in advance.

If you can get a rim cabin at Bright Angel Lodge you would be very fortunate indeed. We had the BEST view of the canyon, a cute but rustic room and our own bath. Keep calling if they cannot accomodate you--this is what we did and eventually a room came open. You might luck out with the time of year you are going.

We stayed at the Kachina Lodge on the south rim and thought it was great. Not as rustic or charming as Bright Angel--more like a nice, recently updated Holiday Inn. Definitely try to stay on the rim. It's worth the hassle of working hard for a reservation!

You won't spend much time in your room so take whatever is available IN the park. We stayed at Yavapai Lodge, which was Holiday Inn quality, and when we stepped out in the morning, there were three deer right outside the room. Ten minute walk to the rim. Can't beat staying in the park, especially if your time is limited. And after a five hour drive to the park, your time WILL be limited!
