Have you decided which Rim you would like to visit yet? With two nights, you'll need to decide on one for this trip since they are several hours apart by car.

Have you looked at www.xanterra.com to find details of which places are within the park itself? I would recommend staying in the park (and you can only book through Xanterra for this) than just outside the park in Tusayan or further away.

Check which places have availability for your dates and the prices offered. This may help reduce your options.

Definintely stay in the park if possible. It's so nice to stroll over to the jaw dropping views of the canyon with your morning coffe in your hand, and see the sun coming up. We stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge, which is a no frills, old timey feeling place, but right on the rim.

*IF* there are only one or two of you and *IF* you don't mind sharing a bath, Bright Angel Lodge has to be the best ratio of price to location in the world. For the cost of a Motel Six, you can awake to a view of sunrise at the Grand Canyon just thirty seconds from your room.

Thanks - those comments are really helpful. Which rim is better to go to - north or south? if you choose the south rim, is it easy to drive to the north rim?

It is not easy to drive from one to the other--it is a long way around. The North Riim is much quieter and I think much nicer. It is also 2000 feet higher.

We were completely satisfied with the Bright Angel cabin, and prefered the south rim to the north. The cabin at the north rim had paper thin walls and we could hear the conversation of the people in the other half of the cabin.
