Good but lower priced lodging in Jackson Hole, WY

We're trying to put together an itinerary for a Yellowstone trip in September and we plan to stay in Jackson, WY for 3 days. Can anyone recommend a nice place at a reasonable price? (<$150) We plan to use Jackson as a base for a few days in Grand Teton NP and we don't want to spend $600 for 3 nights.

Thanks,
David

I've been doing all kinds of internet searches too to find cheap (under $100) lodging in Jackson Hole for July 2003. Not having much luck.

Also NONE of the B&Bs, motels, etc. have replied to my email questions.

We've just about decided on one of the chains. Either Days Inn of the Quality 49er Inn. For September, they are in the low $100's. I have been lucky in getting responses from the B&B's: Trapper Inn, Wildflower Inn, Davy Jackson and a few others. But all out more than we want to spend. We've found the lowest price can be had by calling the property directly. Sites like Travelocity, Expedia and Hotels.com are not showing the best price.

It's typical to splurge on vacation, but we tend to leave the room early and return late. I have a hard time justifying $150+/night for a for a bed and a shower.

We stayed at The Red Lion Inn about five years ago. It was very nice and breakfast was included. The price was very reasonable. We were during the Christmas season. I don't know if they have a web site.

Try the Buckrail. If Janet Colonel still runs the place I am sure it is acceptable. Not luxury when I was there, but decent.
It is a small motel type of place.

Although we stayed at Motel 6 many, many years ago, my advice would be to call any of the lower priced hotels for their rates and decide if you want to make a reservation. They seem to respond to phone calls versus email, and especially for the busy summer months. It is a magnificent area, and you hardly use the room as there is so much to see and do, and the days are long.

We stayed at the Flat Creek Inn several years ago while on a snowmobiling trip. I remember it being reasonably priced and very comfortable.

I just booked the ELK COUNTRY INN for $74.00 economy room for July 2003. The website also linked two other lodges that are connected with similar price range.

Stayed at the Painted Buffalo Inn for around $119/night at the beginning of our trip last July and spent two nights at the end of our trip at the Alpine Motel for $85/night. The room at the Alpine was very small and it is just an older family type motel. But it was a redecorated room, it was clean and they had a small outdoor pool. Plus it was in a quiet residential neighborhood, a very short walk from the Town Square. If you are just planning on using the room to sleep, it was fine. For me saving the money was worth it!

David - here's something that might be worth checking out...

http://www.hostelx.com/

It's "hostel" type lodging - most definitely not 5-star, but for the price I don't think it can be beat. It's located in Jackson Hole (vs. Jackson) which is about 10 miles or so outside of Jackson.

I also hate to spend mucho bucks for lodging while on vacation, as we spend so little time there.

We stayed at the Days Inn for $59 AAA rate in September. You can request a refrigerator and microwave as well for that rate. It also includes a continental breakfast (get there early).

Syv, just tried Elk Country and was quoted $106 for early July, but we have 3 adults. My other calling went as follows: Trapper - $140, 49er Inn $125, Buckrail didn't answer their phone. I just booked Alpine Motel for 2 queen sized beds for $84. Happy Trails.

I found that too with Buckrail. Didn't answer their email & the toll free numbers to all these places don't work from Canada.

I got Elk Country for $74.00 for two people early July. (add 60% to that for us Canadians - gulp!)

Glad you still found something under $100.

Looking forward to our trip. Almost counting the days already!

Any of you interested in classical concerts - while in Jackson area...

check out the Grand Teton Music Festival concerts almost nightly all through July August.

Has its own website. Sounds great.

You might also try the Elk Refuge Inn, another small motel type place. It's owned by friends of mine. It's clean, comfortable and very reasonable. Just 1/2 mi. outside of Jackson north on Hwy 89. Across from the Natl Elk Refuge and bird migration area. About 1/3 of the units have kitchens.

If your visit includes 4th of July, be aware it's the busiest, craziest week of the year in Jackson and lodging prices will be very high.
