Floridians/Gator Fans: Good places to eat in Gainesville?

Will be in Gainesville for two days on business next week. Any unique/must try eating spots while I'm there?

My husband attended UF a few years ago and my sister is there now. We enjoy Mildred's Big City Food (fine dining)or their more casual version, New Deal Cafe. www.mildredsbigcityfood.com

For a true Gainesville experience, try The Swamp Restaurant. http://swamprestaurant.com/ (Obviously, it is across from the stadium, The Swamp)

Another good stop is Ballyhoo Grill. www.ballyhoogrill.lbu.com/

Have a great trip.

It has been 35 years since I was at the UF, but back then there was a restaurant just south of the city called Pirate's Cove. It had an outdoor deck that was over part of Payne's Prairie and you could hear (or see) the gators.

ChrisF101 & Orlando_Vic:

Had time for dinner and then lunch the following day in Gainesville. We had a very nice dinner on the patio at The Swamp and very much enjoyed the affordable menu items and drinks and the the laid back college vibe. The next day on the way out of town, we had a good lunch at Emiliano's. We'll be back, so Mildred's and Ballyhoo are on the list for next time. Thanks for the great suggestions.

Back in Gainesville again. Had a very good meal (firecracker shrimp, grouper almondine) at Ballyhoo Grill last night and enjoyed the informal atmosphere there. Look forward to trying Mildred's next.

Well nothing beats the free food from the Hare Krishnas on the UF campus by the main library.

They're still there? I was at UF until 1974 and they were at the Plaza of the Americas everyday. Maybe they can be considered the oldest restaurant in town (LOL)? My husband used to eat lunch with them when his money started to run out. I never took advantage of their hospitality.

Go Gators!

Okay. I'm sold. Had a fantastic meal at Mildred's Big City Food; best I've had in Gainesville to date:
