Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas

I see the Flamingo in Las Vegas is no longer listed as a Hilton property. What happened? Has this hotel gone down in quality so much as to be delisted from the Hilton roster?

Sister Jean,

Okay, you may get more than you wanted from this response, but here it goes. Also, the last time I stayed at the Flamingo was two years ago, so keep that in mind. However, my husband and I live in AZ so we go to Vegas 2 to 3 times a year for vacations and conventions (or just to see a show).

When traveling there we have stayed at quite a few of the resorts, the last ones being the MGM Grand and the Bellagio. I still say that the Flamingo is a great value, we almost stayed there this last New Years but ended up at the MGM, where we were seeing a show and definitely regretted the choice. Flamingo's standard rooms are very nicely sized compared to others such as Excalibur(7yrs. ago), Treasure Island(5yrs. ago) and MGM(in the tower along Tropicana Blvd.). Also, they were very clean, but not luxurious by any means. The location is also a plus. You have convenient access to great shopping at the Forum shops right across the way. The pools are pretty nice too. Lots of people there during the morning in July though.

We do have some friends that just stayed there in November. They had a very nice experience. Enjoyed the room, the comedy club, and food.

Over the last 2-3 years I've stayed at quite a variety of hotels besides the Flamingo. They are:
Circus Circus (there for a convention, not my first choice, room was clean though)
LV Hilton (again, there for a convention, off the strip, but pleasantly suprised)
MGM Grand (huge, sprawling resort. rooms in old tower very mediocre.)
Bellagio (3 times, the sheets, huge bathtub, and great restaurants on-site make it all worth it)
Venetian (huge wonderful room, not super crowded, nice shopping, great restaurants)

Anyway, if you really want more, just respond to this post and I will check back.

I was also wondering why the Flamingo lost the Hilton designation. I wanted to burn some HHonors points there and I see the hotel is no longer listed on the Hilton web site. Anybody know what happened?

Hi,

The Flamingo was sold to Park Place entertainment who also own Bally's, Paris etc. I think that you can still earn Hhonors points there but you cannot spend them.

the quality did not go down since it was a hilton - park place (i.e. caesars inc.) bought it. Hilton still ownes another hotel there. Flamingo is indeed a good value for the money. just stayed there over new years, and the room i was in 17010,had just been renovated and looked awesome. It was nicer than the room we stayed in at caesars in the forum tower. (no comparison though to the palace tower.) it BY FAR was MUCH nicer than Harrahs.

The food there isnt great though, but the room is great, (bathrooms are still pretty standard, but fine) and the location is nice. you can be at paris, ballys, caesars, venetian, mirage or even Aladdin or Bellagio in 5 minutes each. You cant even get out of your room to the lobby in 5 min at Caesaars....

I stayed at the Flamingo two weeks ago for the first time (I'd stayed at the MGM twice before) The room was very large, nicely decorated. My only complaint was the size of the bathroom. It was clean, but tiny. They could have made it bigger given the size of the room. The grounds were very nice, the pool area etc.

The above poster is right, you could be at any of the other hotels quickly and easily. The location is great.

We only ate breakfast there which we thought was good and convenient. Didn't eat any other meals there.

Our room was $55.

I am going to Nevada at the end of May.
Got Paris for $80 per night.
Love the french cuisine and would absolutely enjoy the food.
However we would like to spend a couple of hours at the pool in the morning, and as I collected it theirs is not the best pool.
Flamingo has a great pool, buffet that was very good 8 years ago, and they have a deal for $25 for the 2nd and 3rd out of my 3 nights. The first night was blocked, unavailable because they sell it as a Memorial Day package. Thanks to your feedback I would gladly reserve Flamingo, but could I reserve one night in one place and the other 2 nights in a different place?
Could anyone provide any info on the pool in Paris? Bellagio has great pools too, but is way too expensive.

I went to Vegas for my b-day last year and stayed at the Flamingo Hilton. My room was nice, nothing to brag about. But my room faced the strip and it was a great view! I went on a weekend so my room rate was $125, not bad!!

The Paris website has a nice picture of the pool there...see for yourself.
It's not surrounded by vegetation or anything, and as such it is boring by LV standards, and not especially large. Those are its main downsides.
The rooms are much much better than Flamingo's though, as are the restaurants. Your call.

I just returned from a stay at Flamingo (it is no longer a Hilton, by the way). What a dump! The hotel is in SERIOUS need of an upgrade and I would strongly recommend people stay away until the hotel gets refurbished. You will most certainly regret staying there!

Hi Sister Jean,
Since I just reserved the Flamingo for 3 nights in July for my family, I would really like to hear what negative qualities you found there.
Can you please be more specific? Worn carpet will not bother me. Mold in the bathroom, on the other hand, would. What makes the Flamingo such a dump? You must be able to back up such a remark!

The general atmosphere is rundown. The elevators are incredibly beat up--filled with stains and graffiti. The two rooms I had (I had to change rooms because I was so grossed out by the first one) were an unprecedented assortment of stains, marks on the wall, dirty linen, soiled carpet, worn bedding and broken soda and ice machines. Frankly, I was shocked. I've stayed at the Flamingo for 20 years and this is the first time I've seen it in this condition. It was absolutely terrible, and I want to warn people that there's a reason you're paying $45 a night for a hotel that, until recently, commanded $80-$100 a night. I guess management is just moving as many bodies through as possible before the inevitable renovation. I'd STRONGLY encourage you to stay away for now.

that's funny..we were just there last week and i saw none of that..the pool was in fantastic shape..everything was clean and the room we had on the 19th floor was very nicely done..small bathroom, but very clean...never once did i see any stains or graffiti and i was there for 4 days..

just my opinion, but for 50.00 bucks you really cannot go wrong..

Sounds like Sister Jean got a bad room, not a bad hotel.
