We are hoping to do a similar route, also in (early) October, but in less time !

Does this itinerary sound ok ? Or should we miss out Yosemite (i.e. only do SFO to San Luis Obispo and back) or miss out San Luis Obisbo (i.e. SFO to Monterey / Big Sur + Yosemite)??

Day 1 : Arrive SFA from England 9.15pm. Night in hotel near the airport.
Day 2 : Santa Cruz / Monterey / Carmel. Night in Monterey.
Day 3 : Big Sur and San Luis Obispo, stopping along the way of course! Night in San Luis.
Day 4 : Drive to Yosemite (5 hours ?). Night in Yosemite.
Day 5 : Full day in Yosemite. Night in Yosemite.
Day 6 : Drive back to SFO for 6.30pm flight to Hawaii to relax ...!

We're not big hikers and are mainly interested in beautiful scenery - so please advise based on that criteria !

We just did San Diego to San Francisco with Yosemite in a 10 day trip. The driving was brutal. Your drive from Carmel to Yosemite will pretty much ruin the day as well as your drive from Yosemite to San Francisco. We completely underestimated the driving times (200 miles should = 4 hours, right? Wrong.) The driving can be very slow and extremely curvy with steep hills and cliffs. We have made a decision that we will never again do a road trip and stay just 1 night anywhere as you simply see only the inside of your car and not much else!

I'm a newbie but wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to layout a 5 to 7 day vacation flying into Fresno to see Yosemite and San Fran plus any other nearby interest...thanks in advance...
