Ferry to Coronado

We will be in San Diego next week. If you take the ferry to Coronado does your car go with you?? Many years ago the ferry also took your car. Is is the same now? Thanks.

There is a bridge you can drive over to Coronado with a car. I think the ferry is just for "foot traffic".

No, it is not a car Ferry. You catch the Ferry down at the Broadway Pier, getting off at the Ferry Landing Markplace on Coronado. From there you can take the trolley, nearly anywhere you need to go. When we took it a few years ago the trolley was free. Don't know if that is still the case. It was a nice relaxing way to visit Coronado. You can get on/off throughout the route. Have a nice trip.

the last car ferry docked in Coronado in 1969. I know because I was the last passenger to get off of it!

The coronado bridge is basically an exit off I-5. The toll was discontinued, so it its now free.

You can take the foot ferry for $2 if you want to have a more scenic trip to the village. Bicycles are allowed on the ferry if you have them.

You can also drive into Coronado from the south around the Silver Strand. It takes an extra half hour or so. Whe the bridge is closed due to accidents, this is the alternate route.

Yes it was a long time ago and it was called the Nickel Snatcher. I think I will opt for the foot ferry. Although we will have a car. I hope parking at the pier will not be a nightmare. Thanks for your replies.

ACtually the nickel snatcher was the old foot ferry that took all the sailors from San Diego to North Island.

When the Bridge was built they had to close down...not allowed within a certain distance of a state toll road. They wanted everyone to drive andpay the toll. The funny thing was that the bridge paid itself off way faster than supposed to anyway, and now Coronado has been devastated by the sheer volume of cars during rush hours.

Anyway, Have fun! the current ferry is a very pleasant ride!
