Liberia to Montezuma

What is the best route to drive from Liberia to Montezuma? How long does it take and is it worth it to have a car in Montezuma. Thanks

Yes, karenlf, you'll be glad you had a car. Drive down to Puntarenas (couple of hours) and take the ferry across. Check the ferry schedule at

www.nicoyapeninsula.com

Recheck it closer to time as it changes fairly often. Typically, you need to be at the ferry 30 min-1 hour before departure. The crossing takes about 1.5 hour. Then you'll have another hour plus to get to Montezuma. It will take the better part of a day.

At one time, there was an 8:30 a.m. departure. Another one about 10:00 or 10:30. Good luck! Have a great time. Definitely need a car! I'm jealous! Love that area. .

Btw, I'll never forget our first time to take that ferry (it's the one to Paquera). We had trouble finding the ferry terminal, for Pete's sake! Didn't know on which side of the spit it was. Go all the way to the end and make a right.

So it that a better route than crossing the Tempisque Bridge and going south on route 21? I would rather be moving than waiting for a ferry.

I know what you mean about moving, but let me tell you, that road is AWFUL--much worse than Monteverde. It is absolutely bone jarring. I'd wait for the ferry and then relax while it chugs you across!

Thanks very much. We will do the ferry. We have done the Monteverde road and really do not want a repeat of that.

It's been 2 years since we were on highway 21 south to Paquera, but someone said recently that it had not improved. I doubt that part of the country is a high priority. Deep, deep ruts--for a LONG distance. Good luck with everything!
