favorite US destination
We just cancelled a month in Italy due to Bob's health. We're so disappointed! He can handle a short flight/one or two weeks somewhere in the US. Where? We're in California and adore the parks here, but are looking for something new. His walking is now limited, but can walk with short rest periods. We like art, photography, history, music, good food. Any suggestions?
PS - Don't postpone your trip!!

If you two are having trouble deciding what to do, why don't you and Bob brainstorm some places you'd like to see (that will meet his health requirements), write each destination on a piece of paper, put all the papers in a container and draw one out to determine your destination? It might help get the ideas flowing if you have an atlas to look at.
I know these are a long flight (and you said a short flight is necessary - I'm not sure whether you mean in comparison to getting to Italy, or a flight of only a couple hours duration).
1. The Boston area is full of history.
2. The coast of Maine is beautiful. How about a
windjammer cruise on Penobscot Bay?
3. Quebec
A little closer to home:
1. Seattle & British Columbia
2. A train ride through the Rockies
3. An Alaskan cruise
I'm so sorry to hear of your disappointment, and hope that Bob will be o.k.
My suggestions are just off the top of my head. I'll just bet that you'll get lots of suggestions. There are so many different points of view on this forum, and lots of creative thinkers.
Best of luck to you.

Hi willis, I am sorry that you two had to cancel your trip to Italy but sure hope that Bob and you will be able to do this later.
I live in California also. I immediately thought of Vancouver, Canada. It is a beautiful city. As is Portland, OR and Seattle.
There is even a bus that you can take from Vancouver to Vancouver Island to visit Victoria (via ferry of course) if that would appeal to you. Another beautiful city.
But perhaps living in California you have already visited these cities?
Best wishes to Bob, I hope his health improves.
