first of all--ask yourself if ANYONE whose children behaved this way would/should have been denied the second leg...
it seems we agree that we have all had children with poor behavior vis a vis yelling/crying/kicked seats/fighting with seatmates--but few comments about children running up and down aisles...

while I KNOW that children who stay in their seats can behave as ill as they choose and little happens...I think getting OUT of their seats and being uncontrollable is the definiing issue---
I would like to think that ANYONE with children behaving that way would be denied the second leg--but frankly I do wonder if these people were not ejected because it was throught they were little likely to raise a stink...

From Phoenix to Seattle is a LONG way--I doubt that anyone making that trip wanted to fly with that group--passengers or attendants--I wonder if the pilot was asked to leave the cockpit to talk to the mom and why there were no cell phone videos taken of the children's behaviors----that would have been proof positive of how dangerous they were...
I would not trust the mom's version of not knowing they were going to be ejected but frankly--I would not have told her that before we landed fearing what she might do in her anger...

I think that Southwest WOULD have made the woman buy another ticket if she were ticketed to sit beside a normal adult... but she was probably sitting with her child on one side and could squeeze him/her with impunity...

I wonder how they WERE seated--what type of plane it was--if it was a 3/2--the sister and one child could have been on one side and the mom and 2 others opposite--but it would not surprise me if the kids were actually sitting by themselves which would make it that much easier for them to walk the aisle--

I am sure having never been on a plane they were excited and interested--but I really doubt the mother educated them about what was going to happen....

passive-aggressive behavior at its worst is what I see in the mother and sister's attitude/behavior---they use the children's unregulated behavior to cause discomfort to others and then react to criticisms or requests for better behavior as though the people doing the asking are singling them out for a variety of reasons unrelated to any actions on their parts but more like just social/class discrimination...

it does not surprise me one bit to have two of the children described as handicapped---many cases of cerebral palsey come from birth injury which is more likely to occur with "charity" hospitals and poor prenatal care...I think it is fairly evident that they are poor...and I would wager that the sister's child has better than 50/50 chance of being diagnosed with some handicap as well...

while her teeth are proof of the sister's poverty, they also resemble those of a crack addict--which wear away from exposure to the drug...not saying she is one--just noting the resemblence

maybe the kids had a better trip on Alaska airlines because they were on their meds, they were all seated together, the kids were asleep, and/or the mom used some discipline...

has anyone check UTUBE to see if there ARE personal videos posted?

what would people think of having in-air cameras to record behavior of disruptive passengers?

I've flown regularly in the US and internationally for years. I have never seen anyone removed from the plane for behavior. I've seen lots of bad drunks, lots of smelly people, inexperienced flyers, and lots of children- passive and exciteable. I have never seen anyone removed for bad behavior- US or international flights. Even the most overbooked, long, hot, cold, or delayed flights. I've seen both adults and children removed for medical issues, but never behavior or lack of complianc with the rules. In Africa, in India, in China, in Vietnam, in the South Pacific, all over Europe, even the Soviet Union (when it was a union).

Once again, I think there must have been some much more eggregious actions or words than we have heard about.

And -for Laura-

What a tough, tough job. I really admire the way that most flight attendants handle an almost-thankless job. Flying has realy changed.

do you think a reporter would describe children as autistic and having cerebral palsy if their mother did not provide that info?

that would be more stupid than having them ejected from the trip--and much more liable for damages..
get real

We fly a lot and we have seen both adults and families removed from flights for causing huge problems. In some cases the children were extremely disruptive and the parent would not even try to get control of them and in others the adults were extremely disruptive and no one could calm them down. Believe me on the flights we have been on the fight crew has done a wonderful job of trying to calm and control the situation all to no avail. Many people just think they can do whatever they want - and they think their kids can too. I can't imagine a flight attendant trying to reprimand someone's child as I know the parent would become very upset even if the flight attendants were right. It sure isn't fun to fly anymore!!

me, get real?

Since when is the media "liable" for any mistruths they babble to the American public?

There is no accountability for the media...
