The Orchid has terrace view rooms? Are you sure you don't mean the Hapuna Beach Prince?
If so, I'm not sure what terraces they're referring to, since the property is essentially flat and surrounded by golf courses. But typically, garden view units face into a property, and have either no or partial ocean views, while terrace view units face the back of a property and can feature views of anything from golf courses to landscaping to parking lots.
It's also usually easier to talk a property into a free upgrade if you pay for something other than the lowest class of room.

fde, actually, the Orchid calls it moderate terrace room (lowest catagory). The reservationist said it would be a "limited view" but would still have view of some foliage. My guess is it would be in the interior corners of the property.
Another reservationist said a lot of these rooms are on the lower floors on outer side of the south tower, which would mean it would face the homes that I believe were just constructed along that side of the hotel.
The garden was described as a more "expansive view." Could be inside the wings, but closer to the beach or facing the golf course (outer section of the north tower), but farther away from the ocean and on lower floors.
Hard to say from these descriptions exactly what you are looking at though.

stelluna, I'm thinking of getting the garden view, but specify I want it facing the golf course. At least that way, I know I won't have a bunch of trees or something else obstucting my view.

Yes, re: terrace - I'm thinking it would be in an interior corner too. Perhaps any view would be blocked by trees and foliage, I do remember that. Haven't seen any of the new construction. I wouldn't mind the trees bugging me on a lower floor but the actual <bugs> themselves. I'd try to get a higher floor for that reason alone.
