Over the years many of us have warned visitors to the islands that, " Hey, it's not disneyworld!"

Well maybe it is. Danger is everywhere. Two lawsuits at least right now. The child bitten by a non venomous snake that caused his gammy's heart attack and the dreadful gator death.

I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind about the public reaction towards the parents of the gorilla attack, and being held publicly to blame rather then the zoo, when their toddler managed to get thru an opening in the cage. There was public outrage, because the beloved gorilla had to be put down. People wanted to blame the parents.

Where was the public outrage when multiple gators were put down when the tragedy happened at disney?

Use due caution and educate yourself about risks - even if it is Disney.

I believe that the fact that many alligators were being destroyed to look for that little boy was not put front and center. I know when I hear this fact, after the boy had been found, it took a few minutes to register that they were killing alligators to look inside them for the little boy.

That and alligators are scary so there is not such an uproar.

At Canaveral National seashore people will pull over to get up close and take pictures of them. They get out of their cars and go down to the canals. I just drive by and shake my head. The gators on golf courses love small dogs.

There is no shortage of alligators and they are vicious wild animals dangerous to humans at all times. They are not one of the attractions. And there were no warnings of the dangers they presented to small children in an open resort area.

Gorillas are an endangered species and the ones in the zoo are maintained to hep preserve the species and to help teach people about these wonderful creatures. How the chid managed to get into the cage I don't know - but it was perfectly clear that he did not belong there and the zoo was doing it;s best to keep him put.

The boy who got into the gorilla's habitat did not "get into a cage." He either fell or jumped down into the moat between the spectator area and the exhibit.

I guess if you have to explain, it isn't clever.

Back in the day here and on other travel boards, whenever someone got sucked into a blow hole or swept out to sea either from climbing on rocks and ledges close to big surf or trying to cross rapid rivers to their death, hiking on wet muddy dangerous trails, people have been urging visitors that Hawaii isn't Disney World and due caution is needed. The message was use common sense and don't put first responders in harms way because you ignore the signs and warnings and think paradise is like Disney World where everything is safe and homogenized.
