We were there last September, just after 9/11. Occupancy was down; the staff was very happy to have guests. It was our third visit, and the staff each time has been warm and welcoming and helpful. Rooms are small and old-fashioned but clean. It's nothing fancy, but convenient and reasonable.

Roberta, you'll be fine. As you already know the location is great - close to theaters etc. The staff is fantastic, and the hotel has been undergoing renovations over the past few years. Rooms are on the small side (but hey, you're spending a few nights, not moving in) and they are not luxurious, but they are clean. I have always felt safe here. The Edison cafe is still fun and is a great breakfast spot. Have a great time!

Your post brought back memories. I was in high school when our chorus went to NYC for spring break in 1985. We stayed at the Edison and had a great time. It was so close to everything.
As I recall, "Oh, Calcutta!" was the play being staged next door and how titilating we thought that was at the time. Little did we know how tame that would seem now!
