Just returned from a weekend in Lambertville/New Hope. Stayed at an historic inn- Lambertville House right in the center of Lambertville. It wasn't cheap but the rooms were very nice- gas fireplace/whirlpool tub- and we walked everywhere. There are a lot of nice galleries and restaurants. I would love to go back in the summer. There are a number of small wineries in the area and you can walk or bike along the canal plus many outdoor dining options along the river.

Montreal is a tiny bit too far to go to for just a weekend, from NYC if you are driving.
But for a 4 day trip or more it is great!
The best time of year to go to Montreal is in the fall, driving through the Adirondacks at that time of year is the Best!

Must suggest Montauk NY, south fork of Long Island. Stay at Ocean Beach resort, ask for the oceanview corner rooms, you will have a private balcony over looking the ocean, short set of stairs to the beach. A glass of wine on the balcony at sunset is great. Then to eat, you can walk to the Shagwong for drinks and dinner, or if it is in season, Gosman's Dock has great food and is at the marina, their open air dining room opens out to the marina, you can watch the boats come and go. Also a great meal can be found at the Oyster Pond also open year around, can be a nice walk from Ocean Beach Resort. During the day go to the Lighthouse, walk around the rocks in front of the lighthouse, to a very nice beach, because of it locale it's alittle hard to get to. I grew up here and make this my weekend retreat especially off season. The motel has a heated pool and jacuzzi for winter time.

12 years ago my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time) and I spontaneously drove to Niagara Falls from Long Island at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. We got to our destination at midnight and spent all day Saturday and Sunday morning enjoying the Falls. Amazing trip.

You were spot on with your Montauk ideas!
SHagwon is great! so much good food! and the hotel is good, Gosmans, and don't forget the small restaurant on the dock called The Dock! Excellent!
We rented a house on Ditch Plains Rd for years and spent many a night having dinner at the Dock and dessert at Ben & Jerrys across the street.
Lunch at Gosmans is fun, but watch out for the seagulls, they are known to fight you for that french fry!

We took the kids (teenagers) up to Mohonk last fall for lunch and hiking. We all enjoyed the trip. We live in central NJ and the trip took us about two hours. I would recomend it. I live in between Clinton and Lambertville and not to far from New Hope, PA. So I can also tell you that all of these towns are good to see. Clinton is small and you can spend half a day there. Happy travels.
