Cool Places in New York

Hi,

Next Wednesday Im going to visit New York and Im going to spend 4 complete days on 57th east St with 3rd ave in Manhattan.

Im traveling with friends, we are on our 30', we love jazz, live music, good food, nice restaurants (not fancy) rooftops, cafes, etc. I would like to have some advice on which places to go, cool-bohemian places with good atmosphere.

Thank you so much.

Take the subway down to Greenwich Village, East Village, SOHO and such. These sound like your kind of areas. In the Village, Caffe Reggio has that old bohemian vibe. These areas have lots of good, inexpensive restaurants, cafes and such. Spend an evening or weekend day soaking in the vibe of Washington Square park.

So I think that might have been good advice in 1996, but perhaps not so much now. The restaurant and bar scene has shifted to Brooklyn and the Lower East Side and the Meatpacking District along the Highline. Most of the cool rooftop bars are in Midtown. Sadly, I'm far too old to make specific recommendations, and I just don't go out that much anymore.

I still go to NYC fairly often and only partially agree. The Village and SOHO still has its places, Washington Square Park still is a fun place to visit, grab a bench or walk around and listen to the different happenings, and the Caffe Reggio is one of a kind and a relic of the bohemian culture that still exists in part of the city.
