clean hotel close to charlottesville

I really need some help finding a hotel in Charlottesville. There are so many on the internet and don't know where the nice areas are. We don't need anything fancy, just close to the downtown area and CLEAN! Only going to be in town for two days.Thanks.

I found a hotel called Best Western Cavalier Inn for 70.00/night. How's the location, and is it nice?

This area is fine and right across the from main UVA campus. It's at the corner of the "main drag" through C-ville (Route 29) and another road. You will not really be able to walk anywhere from here (it's just traffic, school buildings, and a gas station, and offices) but that shouldn't be a problem as long as you have your car with you. The only hotel from which you could feasibly walk to the Downtown Mall would be the Omni--rather pricey. I haven't stayed at this Best Western so no comment as to how nice it is.

Hampton Inn is very clean and a bit nicer than the Best Western if you can get it for the same price. Note that breakfast is included, not sure if it is at the BW.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn tracey recommends and agree with her assessment. Nothing wrong with the BW; the HI is a newer property. I like the Doubletree in C'vlle too.

Charlottesville is a not huge place and most places downtown and near the University are nice.

When I was researching our September VA trip, one option was an overnight in Ch'ville. I researched Priceline and would have bid if our plans had not changed. If you're not familiar with how to use PL, go to www.biddingfortravel.com and study up. The hotels that PL has used in Ch'ville are listed there as well as recent successful bids on hotels in the area.

I know from your other post that you're traveling with two young children. PL promises a double room for two people, but I think it's possible to phone the hotel directly after you've landed successful bid and ask for two double beds so you can accommodate the kids.

A Priceline bid is for TWO only and the hotel can refuse anyone using the room for more than two.

I just stayed at the Best Western Cavalier last weekend. They had a nice breakfast and the room was clean. I didn't have any complaints. It looked a little older than some of the other hotels, but it was clean, comfortable, and the staff was very helpful.

Thanks for your help KatieL. However, I made reservations last night at the Hampton Inn on India Rd. It is not the newer one that is closer to the city. This one is only about a mile farther and about forty bucks cheaper. I chose it based on reviews that is recieved and the hot breakfast sounds great. I also like the fact that the hotel room entrances are within the building and not on the exterior. That makes it so much easier with two little ones running around. Thanks again! Hope I made the right choice.
