Memphis Sleep Inn at Court Square

Anyone stay at Sleep Inn at Court Square in Memphis lately? The location and price are right, and most people on tripadvisor.com seem to think it's fine. The trolley runs right behind it, and some guests thought of that as either a positive or a negative. What did you think?

I stayed there last spring. I had seen really good reviews, but was a bit disappointed. The regular rooms are pretty small. The location and price are fine. So it's not special, but it's OK. It's a few blocks from Beale St, not a bad walk at all. I lked being close, but not in the center of the action. I went primarily for the musical heritage attractions and was not at all disappointed by that!

We stayed here about 3 yrs ago. The trolley was a plus, the hotel and breakfest was ok. I felt unconfortable walking in the area. It was dark with not a lot of people around. We went back last summer and stayed close to Beale street and I felt it was much better.

Thanks for the information on the Sleep Inn, Dave & CD! CD, where did you stay closer to Beale Street?

You might consider the Marriott Residence Inn, which is in a little better location closer to Beale Street. We've stayed there several times and like it a lot - it's got a really good free breakfast, too. The Hampton Peabody Inn is right next to Beale Street, but rooms on the Beale Street side are LOUD and the hotel is pretty expensive, too. Still another option is the Doubletree - just across the street from the Peabody. It used to be a Radisson but was recently renovated and opened as Doubletree. Our one stay there wasn't too wonderful, but the problems were more with staffing, so maybe they've gotten their act together by now. Still another option is the Holiday Inn Express. It's not a fabulous hotel, but it's fine and the location is good. All these places are in better locations (in my opinion) than Court Square - and all are closer to Beale Street.

Susan has given some good suggestions. We stayed at the Peabody. Our room was good size with a very small bathroom but the hotel has class and wonderfully confortable beds, large fuffy towels and very, very clean. The Hampton next door is a sister hotel to the Peabody, has larger rooms and good reviews. We will probably stay there next time. They and the Peabody are about the same rate.
