Dubuque IA Hotel

Does someone have a suggestion on a hotel/motel for Dubuque,IA, Any advice on an area, westside, eastside, etc., or doesn't that matter in Dubuque?

What do you want in a hotel? There is the Grand Harbor Waterpark Resort that is very nice and Holiday Inn (both in the downtown area). On the mid strip there is the Best Western Midway which is fine. The west side has plenty of "chain" hotels that are nice, there is a new Country Inn and Suites that we've stayed at. Why are you going and what do you need?

Thanks for the information fun2travel.

We just want something for 1 or possibly 2 nights in Dubuque. Will be traveling through, and wish to spend sometime exploring the town. The muesum, antique shops, etc.
I checked on TripAdvisor before posting here. The advice varried so much on area hotel/motels, like "not a very good neighborhood", "really run down", and that was for some like Best Western, and some other well known names. I've read that not all the advice on that site is completely honest. So thought I'd check here.

We probably don't need the waterpark. However if the Holiday Inn, Best Western Midway and the Country Inn an Suites are all nice properties and in good locations, then we won't have a problem choosing. Thanks for your help.

We have stayed at all the hotels that fun2travel mentioned. The Grand Harbor worked well with children. We stayed at X-Mas and it definitely broke the monotony of being cooped up in the house visiting relatives. The Country Inn is comfortable, clean, and has a nice indoor pool/hot tub/game area and exercise room. They have a complimentary breakfast that includes a different hot item each day. There are several restaurants adjacent and a Hy-Vee, Kohls, etc., just a few blocks away. The Holiday Inn and Best Western were both seriously showing their age and in need of renovations!! There is a new Hilton Garden by the dog track. Heard it's nice but haven't stayed there yet. The only other hotel that we have stayed at in Dubuque is the Fairfield which is close to the mall and Target. It was very basic but was clean and had a complimentary breakfast and indoor pool. Hope this helps.
