The Fodor's NYC guide I just bought was published in 2003 and the hotels that are listed for around $150 are much more expensive now. Any suggestions for a decent hotel in midtown for $150?

Prices are just crazy right now. The applecorehotels.com group includes a Comfort Inn Midtown which is decent. Depending on when you're going and what you define as "decent" look at Hotel 41, the Salisbury and the Affinia.com hotels. $200 is now closer to the bottom end of things, especially at busy times. Radio City Apartments might work too. Priceline is always an option.

You can sometimes get the Four Points in Chelsea for less than $150 or close to it.

The Belvedere was decent. It's on W. 48th near 8th.

We paid $139 per night using their NY1 discount. Right now it looks like it's $159 for a min 2 night stay, breakfast included.

The rooms aren't plush, but were clean and ours wasn't cramped. They do promote the "king bed, internet access" rooms at the regular price, but I suspect those rooms are limited. We ended up with a queen bed room and a regular data port for dial out. The rooms do all have a little kitchenette area, a room safe, ironing stuff and hair dryer though.

We'd stay there again if we were staying in midtown on a budget.

I always stay at the cheapest between Hojo and Days Inn on 8th and Super 8. Just excellent locations. I spend 3 nights in Feb for $111+++ and just booked last Monday a week before and got $96 at HOJO and Days Inn $116 booked a few months ago (added a day). Basic hotels, but large rooms in the Hojo and Days for midtown.

For the Belvedere Hotel, what is the NY1 discount and where did you find it?

Sabrina, It's listed on that website off the "Special Rates & Packages" selection on the left-hand menu. Different prices for different time periods.

I hadn't seen the website until afterwards. I first heard about it when I called the hotel and asked what specials they were running.

I also agree, priceline is the best way for good value.

I would also check some of the hotel's own websites (not the booking sites). Many time the hotel offers the best rates. ALso call, and ask if they have any specials or discounts (AAA, etc). For whatever reason, many times they don't offer this info, you have to ask.

I recently booked the Belvedere through Central Reservation Service, www.crshotels.com and got the best rate I could find at the time. I checked all the booking sites as well as the hotel website and also called the hotel direct.
CRS gave me the best rate. I paid about $150 per night for three people ($15 extra for the third person). It was a very nice and large room - the bathroom, however, was quite small. The kitchenette was handy, and we enjoyed our stay - the location is great!

My wife, daughter and I are going to be in NYC in May and booked the Park Central via Priceline for $147/night.
I have heard and read mixed reviews on it though.

Thanks Clifton .BlH, I am so glad to hear that you had a good experience booking a room at the Belvedere through CRS. In January I booked a May reservation with them and got a great rate. In the past I have booked through the hotel. I was worried, as I had never used CRS before.

I stayed at Hotel Stanford on 32nd and Broadway last week and paid $149 per night. Of course, after taxes it came up to about $180 per night.
