Visiting these two cities for the first time, 2 days each. We are from the West Coast and this is our first visit. No children. We are young seniors! What should we NOT miss, aka, what should we include in our itinerary…places, restaurants, etc.

What the heck is a "young senior"?
I am 58, am I a "young senior" or an "old teenager"?

In Charleston, it is compulsory to visit the Hunley exhibit.
You must also visit Golden and Associates Antiques on King Street. They specialize in military miniatures and Campaign furniture.
After, you have to have fried chicken at Leons.

In Savannah one of the compulsory stops is the Ships of the Sea Museum. You also must see the hat collection at the Mansion on Forsyth, and eat at Vics on the River.

With only two days, I would try to do a 1 or 2 hr walking tour of each city. Both have beautiful architecture and interesting histories that a good walking tour will cover.

Charleston has so many wonderful restaurants that it is hard to know where to start. Would depend on your preferences re type of food and budget.

You might want to take a look at my trip report, although we had a little more time than you did covering the same cities; click on my name to find it.

I recommend a detour to Beaufort, SC, halfway between the cities, for lunch at Griffin Market, the best Italian restaurant south of NYCity. A million dollar wine collection.

SLAVE MART in Charleston. This is an absolute must in my opinion. History, history, history. FT. SUMTER if you have Civil War interest. BOONE HALL is an excellent tour of a plantation with the slave quarters still intact.America's oldest working plantation. Worth the trip. and for beautiful gardens Middleton Place. There are some wonderful walking tours as well and architectural tours. On Saturday there is a large Farmers Mkt in the square that has more than just food

BEAUFORT has some wonderful Antebellum houses and Savannah is just plain lovely with all the squares, houses, waterfront.

We visited Savannah and Charleston fairly recently.

In Charleston we ate at S.N.O.B. http://www.mavericksouthernkitchens....ynorthofbroad/ and loved it. Husk restaurant has good reviews, but I've eaten there three times and thought it was very overrated. I'll never go there again unless someone else is paying! (Which was the case the last two times I went there.) Also, this tour was really interesting and different from the standard Charleston tour. http://gullahtours.com/ It's mainly on a bus--not much walking. We loved it!

Our favorite lunch place in Charleston is Hominy Grill. Our favorite places for dinner are Magnolia and FIG.
