GoTravel gave good advice on both counts--Mills House is by no means the finest place to stay and you need to see WHERE you may even be able to get reservations for that time. Mills House is a hotel. Days Inn is a hotel. Two Meeting Street and several other places are destinations. Make reservations SOMEwhere immediately or you'll be staying in Mt. Pleasant.

Whoa, I just checked all my replys and am very greatful for all your suggestions. You are right, I did not know the Mills house was a Holiday Inn and it DID look quite "fancy". I took one of the suggestions and booked my stay at the Elliott House which I thought was very resonable at $150. The Days Inn was not exactly what I was looking for, however, I appreciate the suggestion.

We generally like to stay in a B&B when visiting such a historic city such as Savannah or Charleston and expect to pay for it. That being said, I enjoy my stay much better if I know I'm not spending $200-400 per night as would be no problem to do in Charleston.

Thank you for all your suggestions, but this is the killer.....after all this, reservations made both airlines and Inn, my dearest niece called to tell us she won't be graduating after all since she hasn't met her language obligation.

GRRRRRRR!!!!!!! We still might go and spend the time sightseeing and enjoying the city.

I'm a little confused. On trip advisor there is a Holiday Inn-Historic District that is rated no. 1. Farther down the list there is the Mills House. I'll be traveling to Charleston in April...which one of these is considered the "one." I actually have reservations at another place-but I'm always interested in learning if I've made good choices. Thanks.

lauralee, The Mills House on Meeting Street is listed as a Holiday Inn property but the actual Holiday Inn Charleston is on Calhoun Street.

Lauralee: if you're looking to be closer to the center of historic "action", I'd recommend the Mills House. Its only about 3 blocks from the Market and a closer walk to the historic old homes and Battery than the HI on Calhoun.

Bogger: sorry your niece won't be graduating...but you'll no doubt enjoy your visit to Charelston...May is a great time as the flowers will be in bloom and the weather will be nice.

I know someone suggested the rooftop of Vendue Inn but you may also want to check out the rooftop of the Market Pavillion Hotel -- 225 East Bay on the corner of South Market and East Bay. Its my favorite place to go in the late afternoon for sunset with my friends.

Enjoy your visit to the Holy City!
