Charleston and/or Savannah in 4 days

Hi everyone. We're planning a trip in a few weeks that will give us 3.5 to 4 days to spend in Charleston or Savannah. They are only about 2 hours apart so we're tempted to try to hit both in one trip.

1. Is it realistic to do both in that timeframe or would that just leave us rushed and missing out?
2. If only doing one city, which would be better?

I was tempted, too, on a week-long trip but found Charleston had so many great things to do, in town & just outside, and great restaurants, I'd recommend you spend this trip there. Visit Savannah another time. Charleston does not disappoint!

Here are mine...

...and others in our group have some on the TG site, too, if you search "Charleston".

They're totally different. I think you have time to see both, with two days or so for each. I personally prefer Savannah, but it's a matter of taste.

I also think you have time for both. Both are charming.

You may have "time" but Mme Perdu is correct IMO. Get "into" Charleston and have a great low country time. Don't forget the plantations--Middleton is our favorite.
If you suddenly feel you have time--do a good day trip to Savannah.

I would try to do both, they are similar but very different cities. Charleston has a lot of great things to see, but Savannah is wonderful "strolling" city. If you want a busy see lots of interesting sights type of trip go to Charleston. If you want a more relaxing slower paced type of trip to to Savannah. They both have a good variety of bars and restaurants with really good food.

I personally prefer Savannah, but I like a more relaxed type of trip.

Thanks for the replies everyone! We are leaning towards 2 days in each, flying out the night before to give us a full 4 days. Both just sound so great we don't want to choose between them.

Our trip was awesome! Both cities were great but we especially loved Savannah. It was really nice walking through Forsyth Park, Bonaventure Cemetery and many of the squares (we did 16 of them).

We could've used a little more time in Charleston but we expected that going in. I'd gladly return to visit either city.

I've noticed that most people prefer Charleston but I favor Savannah. I love walking through the city, stopping to admire the beautiful squares. Restaurants are delicious in both cities.

No, I'm right there with you Debbielynn. We've been to Charleston once and we loved it but we keep going back to Savannah (7 trips).
