Casual restaurant near Hotel George?

I'm coming into DC for a quick business trip next week, and, since I'm trying to maximize my social time, am making late dinner plans for the night I fly in. Any suggestions for a casual, neighborhood-type place walkable from the Hotel George? I've heard great things about Bistro Bis, but don't think I'll be up for that level of dining experience that night.

Hotel George is not really in the neighborhoody part of Capitol Hill. However, there are some pubs right around the corner:

The Dubliner is decent pub fare in a fairly authentic Irish pub setting.

And you have the Capitol City Brewery in the post office building. Not necessarily great food, but good beer and a little more upscale than the Dubliner.

Both of these are at the corner of Mass Ave and North Capitol. A couple blocks from Hotel George.

Bistro Bis is certainly your best bet for good dining in the area. But you're right, it's a little stuffier.

Thanks! Capitol City Brewery sounds about right.

I think Capitol City brewing is your best bet if you don't want to go far. There really isn't much choice, although there are several decent restaurants in Union Stn (like America).

That area isn't a neighborhood where people live, it's businesses and associations, etc.

Johnny's Half Shell and, for a really casual option, Taqueria Nacionale, would be other options.

Johnny Half Shell has very good food and its casual. Unfortunately Taqueria Nacionale closes early -- maybe 3 -4 pm. I don't think any of the restaurants in Union Station are very good.

Johnny's and Capital City Brew Pub are good recommendations. If you want a short walk with your dinner, turn left as you exit Hotel George and head down Mass Ave past Union Station. Within a couple blocks are a slew of casual restaurants, including White Tiger (Indian) and Cafe Berlin (German).

Also, if you want a more casual experience at Bis, you can eat at the bar. I've done that and it's actually kind of a nice experience. Enjoy!
