casual inexpensive Asheville NC Restaurants

Any casual moderately inexpensive restaurants in the Asheville area? Looking for something unique or fun, no chains please.

Can you comment on any of these? A friend mentioned them but hasn't been to any for awhile.
1 Barley's
2 Hannah Flannigans
3The Bier Garden
4Jack of the Woods
5Tomato Jam Cafe

It's been a couple years since we've been to Asheville, but Barley's had great high energy atmosphere, good pizza and a huge draft beer selection. Jack of the Woods, a great bar, didn't serve food, but there was a restaurant upstairs that did.

There are a couple/few small independent restaurants in the charming town of Black Mountain close by - good for lunch.

Scratch what I said about no food at Jack in the Wood - I was thinking of someplace else. It's a great pub (though I have not tried the food - just lots of their beer).

Darn, Jo, I don't know a one of those you listed. Some good casual, moderately inexpensive restaurants would be:
a. Veranda in Black Mountain
b. Stony Knob and Welbread Cafe in Weaverville.
c. Tupelo Honey, Early Girl Eatery, Sunny Pointe Cafe,Mellow Mushroom,Green Life Grocery,Moose Cafe (at the Farmer's market), Green Sage, Salsa's.

I hope you enjoy your visit to one of the most beautiful parts of North Carolina!

Doc Chey's is the first place that came to mind. It's a chain - but a VERY small chain (five locations in two states)

I vote for Tupelo Honey too...and any restaurant that cmcfong recommends.

I second Tupelo Honey and the Mellow Mushroom. Both are casual, but MM moreso. For TH, get there just before it opens to be at front of the line,at odd hours, or make a reservation. Place if very popular, even on weekdays. Also. Grovewood Cafe is very nice, a little less casual than the other two but not stuffy. Very quaint setting next to Grovepark Inn. Moose Cafe great place for B'fast.

Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville is YUMMY and extremely casual. Breakfast all day... Their special "Scrambles" are delicious! They have great desserts too. http://www.sunnypointcafe.com/

Thanks all. Also, are Zaxbys' in the area? Awhile ago we hit one for lunch somewhere in the south and thought it was great for fast food.

If you like Zaxby's - try Chick-fil-a. Much better IMO. There are 4 in Asheville. www.chickfila.com

Thanks Brian, they probably are better but we have them around here. I remember an amazing salad at Zaxby's and wouldn't mind having one again. Even if I get it to go the day we leave
I'll check their website for locations.

In the meantime, any other recommendations anyone?

If you like Mexican/Latin food, Chorizo's is casual and excellent. Many items serve huge portions, so you could share.
