Car Rental Hawaii (Discount)
Another post about the current high cost of Hawaii car rentals made me start checking for Sept/Oct. I've been comparing various companies with various discount codes.
But then I found www.carrentalhawaii.com
which shows special discounted prices from various agencies and will book with full cancellation allowable, and no prepayment or even giving a credit card.
Currently I'm looking at Avis being the best on Kauai, Maui, and Big Island (avoiding Alamo which is a little cheaper on one or two islands, but I don't like them). The rates quoted on car rental Hawaii is about 37% lower than the Costco or other code rates with Avis I've tried.
So the question is -- is there anything I should be wary of booking through Car Rental Hawaii?
I've already gotten back a confirmation of my price in Kauai, and called Avis to confirm and to add my Wizard number, so all seems to be fine, yet Avis couldn't match the price or come any lower than $287 compared to the final price with taxes and fees of $175. Big difference.
I may still try Priceline when the time gets closer, but want to book something on each island for now.

gyppie, I don't get what you mean about Hotwire "comparisons". They only show you a single price for each category without showing various agencies. And they require a prepaid booking, don't they? That seems pretty meaningless to me, especially when I definitely want to avoid Alamo, for example.
And while I love Kayak for hotels and other things, when I enter Kauai there, I get an absolutely lowest of $295 for Alamo for an economy and others show specific companies for as much as $560 -- yet it I go to those same sites direct, they are mainly a fraction of that price. Maybe they aren't any good for comparing this far out?

Patrick,
When are you going? Will be on Kauai Sep. 19 for a week. Haven't checked the rental car prices yet, but read a thread over on TA just this afternoon that the rental car agencies had reduced the number of cars in their fleets by a substantial number and a few people have shown up with reservations and not gotten their cars!

, but booking a "last minute special" one week rental with Alamo a few days
before arrival on Maui, beat this site by $-)48. Surf on!
