Hawaii care rental questions

Hi all

It is time for us to arrange car rentals for our trip to Hawaii. We will be staying on Oahu, Maui and Kauai. We would like a convertable on Maui and either a convertable or 4wd suv on Kaui and a compact on Oahu.

Can anyone tell me how to get a good price? Are there any good coupons or dicount codes out there? My husband has Am Ex reward points that can only be used on Hertz so that
is who we have to use on at least one island anyway?

thanks

Our best car rental deals have been using AAA or AARP. And calling EVERY one to compare........

Google " Hawaii Car Rental" there are several agencies that represent the major rental companies. Compare the lowest prices you find there to the Car Rental companies' web sites. Book the lowest cost vehicle you can find. Then check back often as the rates can and do change. There's no penalty for canceling an existing reservation if you book a new one. Finally, a few weeks before you go, try one of the name your price outfits to see if you can save a few more dollars. Web surfing makes it easy and fairly lucrative. Don't book a "name your price" car until you are absolutely sure that you are going to go because once you accept their offer, there are no refunds, period.

My opinon, stay away from the non major companies. Saving a few bucks on a car isn't worth the risk of bad service or a poorly maintained car. Vacation time is too valuable.

We just booked our rental cars for Oahu and Kauai using Orbitz as a starting point. (www.orbitz.com)
You can compare all the different car companies and they show the final rate which can differ greatly from company to company. The cheapest for a one week convertible is from Enterprise at $270 total with taxes and fees. There is also a website http://www.rentalcodes.com/ that has special savings codes for each company that you can use when you call them direct.

Try Thrifty.com I got a great deal on a midsize (Dodge Stratus) for $179 for the week back in March.
