Whoa people, Whoa! Let's dial down the ridiculous hyperbole and simply agree to disagree. None of us are perfect, of that one thing we can all be sure.
Some of us like Canal Street and the products, fake & real & otherwise, that are sold there. Some of us do not.
The sun will rise tomorrow. Everybody relax.
Neither the world's labor problems nor the solution to shallow materialism can be found on Canal Street.

Want an insider's tip. A great place to buy pashmina's (yes they are real, not rayon) is on Canal St. It's a very small store just west of Chinatown, and I think it is on the corner of Layfayette and Canal on the south east corner.
The Pashmina's are in a large case at the back of the store and they come in every color you are looking for. The price is about $25-$45 depending on the size. They also have the newest ones that have beads and embroidery. They are absolutely beautiful and a great price. Same things at the large stores here for $100 or more. I now have at least a dozen in lots of colours.
Canal Street is alot of fun, also a bit east are all the jewelry stores and you can haggle in most of those as well. I have gotten some really beautiful things there over the last few years.
Parking is the biggest problem you will find. I would suggest getting in in the early am and parking at one of the lots in the area, but figure it will cost you $20 for the day.
Another option is to take the subway, or cabs.
Have a great time, the shopping is great there and so many of the businesses got hurt badly by 9/11 they could use the boost of business.
Have a great time.
