California Theme Park(s)
Which California (LA area) would be the best for a family trip with kids ranging from 5-18. We've done Disneyworld so Disneyland is OK but not on our "must do" list. Any thoughts on the other parks in this area.

Pleasing a 5 yr old and an 18 yr old at the same time is probably pretty difficult. In LA you've got the Natural History Museum, Universal Tours, Hollywierd, lots of shopping, and the beach. Half the family could do the adults-only Warner Brothers tour while the younger kids see the LA Zoo, they're only a few minutes apart. A day trip down to Sea World or to the Wild Animal Park in Escondido makes for a long day but is certainly manageable.

California Adventure across the plaza from the entrance to Disneyland is an option. There is a roller coaster for the adults as well as a roller coaster for the tots. The kids will love the muppet and bugs life shows and everyone will love the grizzly river log ride. There is a "backlot" area as well.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has great roller-coasters for the older kids, and a decent sized area with rides, shows, and other things appealing to the youngest. There's a pretty good water park on the property too; fun for all ages.

Six Flags is great if your kids enjoy roller-coaster type rides. All of my kids insist on going there at least once in the summer.
I'll hold out for Disneyland, which I like to do in the fall when the crowds are gone. Big Mickey fan here! ***kim***

I highly recommend Magic Mountain. We get season passes each year and go at least 5x/year. Kiddie land is great for the little ones, it is very seldom busy and the kids can ride over and over again. They have five water rides and a dozen good big rides. Plus they have Hurrican Harbor right next door. (seperate admission for HH). You can't compare Ca Disney to Magic Mtn. Universal is a good trip once every ten years. Although no comparison to MM either. If you enjoy roller coasters and something for the entire family, MM is a great choice. Look up their web site and check out the rides and height restrictions.

We really enjoyed Universal Studios as a family a few years back (and I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.) The park is busy (like Disneyland) but thoughtfully arranged with shady overhangs at places where lines might be long.
