Buying a TV in Connecticut
Is there a particularly good place to buy a TV (new) in southwest CT? (Like here in SF, you might go to Fry's or VideoOnly, and in NYC, you might go to J&R or B&H). Sorry if I should have posted this in the Lounge - wasn't sure.

I found the Sony store had prices substantially less than any of the discounters (it was last year's style but who cares). And they can order whatever they want on line if there's no store near them.

I just bought my Dad a TV for Father's Day. I live in the Chicago area. He lives in the middle of nowhere - Crossville TN. I bought the TV on Amazon & had it shipped. It arrived in 3 days & the price was comparable to Costco!

Buy it at Costco. They extend the warranty by a year also. Or CompUSA online.
And if you buy it at Amazon like Bob, you really might want an extended warranty. We had a Visio for 2.5 years and it "went". Fortunately we had bought it at Costco before their new warranty extension and had a FULL refund! Get a Panasonic or Sony.

J & R has free shipping on all LCD tvs of 42" and less. http://www.jr.com/category/video-tv/...-panel-lcd-tv/
That said, one thing to consider if buying online or by phone and shipping is INSURANCE. This is the type of thing that miraculously goes missing.

On another board someone suggested looking at Craigslist for a good buy when people sell to upgrade. There is a caveat to that I think, in that the new HDTVs have a somewhat checkered record of longevity. Our Vizio (from Costco) died after 2.5 years. Fortunately because it was bought under their old warranty we got a full refund of the purchase price. In purchasing a replacement, we got a Panasonic (a better record than Vizio).
But, if the price was right, it may be worth the risk.
