Buckingham Hotel New York City

Found a special for a one bedroom suite at the Buckingham Hotel for $179 during April. Location looks good. Can anyone tell me anything about the Buckingham? Should I book it or should I keep looking? I've never been to NYC so any and all help is appreciated.

Good location. Older, traditional hotel with a lot of things not up to date - but rooms generally not oo tiny - so a suite should be fairly large.

You migh look at the affinia group of all suite hotels to see if they have something in your price range - generally they're quite a bit more up to date.

There are some suites there that are fine (renovated) but the unrenovated ones can be dingy. The price on travelzoo.com is actually $159 which is a bargain. If you need a 1 bedroom and you're on a budget, this is a good option as the location couldn't be better.

The only thing that comes close for a suite at possibly a similar price is Radiocityapartments.com but it's rarely available.

In addition to Affinia.com (their cheapest property is the Eastgate Towers--not as good a location but certainly central) there are others. What are you looking for and for when?

I stayed at the Buckingham Hotel. It is in a great location, but as mentioned some of the rooms are not renovated. We stayed in one that was not, it was just okay. The windows have zero noise-proofing, so expect to hear a lot of street noise.

I asked to see some other rooms which had been renovated. I actually jotted down the room number and kept it handy. The room I like is 7K. It is VERY nice / completely different from the non-renovated rooms, but probably still has the street noise issue.

Whether or not they would honor a request for a particular room, I do not know.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I reserved a couple of rooms - I can cancel later with no fees.

We want to experience NYC - good food, a couple of plays, shopping, sightseeing and walk the Brooklyn Bridge. I know rooms are expensive - would like a nice one but we're not willing to spend the money. Thanks again.

There are lots of better options than the Buckingham (imo). If you indicated your dates, how many people/rooms you need, we could help. Do you need a suite hotel? Have you checked radiocityapartments.com?

RadioCity Apts not avail. Don't have to have a suite hotel. 4 of us are going. Could share a room if it is big enough. Dates are a little flexible. Looking at arriving April 12th, 13th or 14th. 4 nights. Thanks for any and all help.

The Shoreham hotel has a special for weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun) on travelzoo. You can get 2 rooms for $189/night for 3 nights or fit 4 in a double double for $229/night.

You'd have to find out about a 4th night rate.
