You might consider taking them to see "Wicked". This musical is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz and has gotten great reviews. It is ALWAYS best to buy tickets ASAP to get the best seats.

I recommend Aida, 42nd Street, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mama Mia and Movin Out - they are all age appropriate for 11 year olds. Very few shows aren't age appropriate - but there are ones like Rent where the subject matter and story line is a bit mature for that aged child.

Also, if you are planning on seeing a weekend show, book your tickets ASAP!

I saw Mille over Christmas with my 11 year old niece. She loved it (as did I). The lead playing Millie is so incredibly talented, and the supporting cast is great (Delta Burke!). Costumes are wonderful as well. I would highly recommend it for an 11 year old.

I think Hairspray is the best. All the shows mentioned are very good also but Hairspray is just so upbeat and energetic. Movin Out it more of a dance performance to Billy Joel music, so depending on the girls, it may not be their thing. Wonderful town is also very cute and good for kids. Fiddler on the Roof will also be up and running by then, another classic.

Popular shows like Lion Kong, Hairspray, Wicked and probably Fiddler sell out, so definitely buy un advance. Aida, Beauty, Millie, 42nd st (older shows) generally are available. You can also check on playbill.com, broadwaybox.com for advance sale tickets (the very popular shows are never discounted).
