I personally like the Palm and
Smith & Wollensky. They are a little pricey but the steaks are huge and i share with someone else. I have been to Peter Lugar's and did not feel like the trek out to Brooklyn on the subway was worth the $35 steak. The steak was fine but the atmosphere is kind of dingy - food spotted menus, no tablecloths, chipped furniture. A lot of people like this as part of the charm i guess. I just personally did not. If you want something classy but down to earth, I would say The Palm.

You know, Carp, another idea might be Cite. A little fancy for a steakhouse, but they have this GREAT prix-fixe wine dinner. You have to sit AFTER 8 pm (curtain time) and you basically get the choice of the menu for appetizer, entree and dessert, plus all the wine you can drink. That's right, all the wine you can drink. They pour a champagne for apperitif, a white for appetizer and a red throughout dinner. The wines are good and they don't chintz. I forget the price, but if you like wine (and don't have to drive!) it's a good deal. They are located in the 50's off 6th Ave. Plus, it's a very nice atmosphere and the service is good.
