Are these hotel rates per person?

For most NYC hotels the quoted rate is for two people unless indicated otherwise but there are exceptions. You have to check. Worst case scenario at a place like the Wolcott it may be an extra $5 or $10 for two people rather than one. Unlike some tour packages that advertise "price per person based on double occupancy", hotel rates in NYC (and most other US cities) are per room, not per person. Many suiburban motels that catere to business travelers will offer a "single" rate that is a trifle cheaper than the price for two people.

Gina, honey, people aren't rude, we just aren't mindreaders. How are we supposed to know if the rate is per person or per night if we don't know where you got the rate???
The common sense thing to do, if you got the rate from the hotel, would be to call them, now wouldn't it?

Gina you are right. People on this forum are extremely rude. I have found a lot of useful info, but for the most part it seems folks are angry and use this forum as a way of venting there anger. No one will ever know who they are. It serves as an outlet of some type. Very sad.

The rate at the Wolcott is per room. But, I've seen rates for the Wolcott as low as $99 in some travel magazines (Frommer's comes to mind), but you have to provide the code number stated in the advertisement. I've read some unkind reviews here at Fodor's about the Wolcott. Have you considered using Priceline and bidding for 3 or 4 star hotels in a specific area of NYC?
I stayed at the Hotel Belvedere in MTW for $83 last Thursday, and the Intercontinental Barclay in MTE for the next 3 nights for $110. Both were bids that I made through Priceline. Depending on when you are going to NYC, you might be able to find hotels in the $100 range in MTW.

Ok, now I would have called the hotel immediately if I lived in the U.S., not Australia. All I wanted was to get an idea from people who may have stayed there. I am 20 years old and hoping to travel down the east coast of America next year, fingers crossed I don't run into someone as rude and condescending as you! Thankyou to the the people who posted advice to help me.
