Anyone else feel guilty about leaving your kids while you go on vacation?

Luzianne, I can't imagine what editors found offensive about your posts. They were sweet and heartfelt. I notice too that other posts have been deleted...most noticeably the misogynistic lumberjack. Did you have any interactions with him/her?
Buckeyemom, your question was a good one. I can't believe it generated such a level of controversy!

to Luzianne, don't feel too badly about being "edited" as it happens all the time. Sometimes it's easy to tell why--either a topic has gotten a bit nasty--but other times I haven't a clue as to why! The first time that something I wrote was deleted I was livid! But what's the point of that when it's Fodor's board to with as they please. Even Scarlett, who is always charming and even-tempered in all her posts, has had a line or two disappear. (Yes I know that's hard to believe!) Keep on writing what you feel & keep it related to travel, I guess.
To Uhhhhh-- that was a royal "we." As in all of us mothers, collectively.

I've stayed out of this thread because my husband and I do not have children by choice. However, my parents took two or three vacations a year without the [me and my siblings] kids and it never bothered us. In retrospect, they seemed closer when they came home.
cd, isn't your thinking just a wee bit skewed? How can you say to what degree you love different members of your immediate family?

Buckeyemom~~
I have three sons ages 18,17,16. They left for a road trip without me! I hate a quiet house.
We left them for the first time when 2 were still in diapers. My husband's job sent us on fabulous trips to 5 star resorts every year. I never felt guilt when I left them (obviously with 3 in 2 1/2 years it was a welcome break!)but I did miss them. As they got older we found ourselves thinking about how much fun they would have if they were with us, but still no guilt.
It definitely has been a benefit to our boys to learn over the years that they are just fine when we are not around. I think that how you handle leaving will determine how well your daughter handles your absence. Make her feel your confidence in her ability to handle herself well while you are away, and IMHO I thinks it's a big mistake to make a big deal about leaving. If you show that you are upset and worried, that's how she will feel while you are gone.
Go and have a great time!!!!
