We were lucky enough in 1998 to see John Glenn go up into space. All we could hear on the beach were lots of "pops" from champagne tops coming off - Proud wasn't nearly the right word for how I felt watching that ship climb!
Wanna get the other halves and share a bottle of bubbly, Kal?

I'm forever reminded of the years I spent in the space program, from Alan Shepherd's first ride all the way to the big Saturn moon rocket. I had friends and classmates who were astronauts, and I worked with some members of Dr. Von Braun's "German Mafia," as they were fondly nicknamed. It was an exciting time in our history, and I'm proud to have been a part of it. Now I just watch and reminisce.

Now THAT'S traveling!
Best wishes to them. In the meantime, check this website for the sounds of a very distant "culture" - i.e., Saturn (click on "play sound of..." below graph): http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ca.../pia07966.html

It was a gorgeous sight this morning, I was able to go to the backyard and see it go up...a beautiful fiery front and smoky trail, going very fast, then disappeared behind a cloud...made me laugh and cry at the same time...
